Joan Smith is a British novelist, columnist and human rights activist. She is the author of six novels and a number of non-fiction works, including the widely-acclaimed Misogynies. She is a former President of the Creators' Rights Alliance and a current board member of the Authors' Licensing and Collecting Society. She chaired the English PEN Writers in Prison Committee from 2000-2004 and has advised the Foreign & Commonwealth Office on freedom of expression. Since 2013 she had been Chair of the Mayor of London's Violence Against Women & Girls Panel. Her most recent book (2015) is a short polemic entitled Down With The Royals.
