EU commissioner for digital economy and society
Günther H. Oettinger is European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society since 1st November 2014. On 10 February 2010 he became European Commissioner for Energy and from 1st July – 31st October 2014, he was Vice-president of the European Commission. From 2005-2010, he was Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg (Germany) and, since 1984, a member of the regional Parliament ("Landtag"). He was the leader of the CDU Landtag group from January 1991 to April 2005.
A lawyer by training, Günther H. Oettinger became actively involved in politics during his adolescence. He is a member of the Federal Executive Committee and of the Steering Committee of the CDU Deutschlands.
