Senate Chancellery Berlin
Björn Böhning was born in Geldern am Niederrhein in 1978. He grew up in Lübeck, where he graduated from high school and did alternative civilian service (in lieu of military service) at a sheltered workshop for people with disabilities.
He majored in political science at the Freie Universität’s Otto Suhr Institute and graduated in 2004. He then worked in the policy department of the German Trade Union Federation
From 2007 to 2011, Björn Böhning headed the Political Policy and Planning Office of the federal state of Berlin’s Senate Chancellery.
Since December 2011, he has been a permanent secretary and the head of the Senate Chancellery. This position gives him responsibility for film subsidies and support for pop music in Berlin, among other things. Björn Böhning chairs the supervisory board of Medienboard Berlin Brandenburg, which is responsible for film funding and media business development, and the board of trustees of the Deutsche Film- und Fernsehakademie Berlin (Berlin’s film and television school).
